camping outdoors, outdoor sportLabor Day weekend looms, and we are heading to a cooler climate to get out and get some exercise. More than likely, it'll just be a day trip because the weather is uncertain for camping outdoors. There is a big hurricane blowing up from the south and by the time it gets here, it'll bring lots of wind and rain which is not exactly conducive to a lot of outdoor sports. But if we go on a day trip, we can check the weather before we go to see what the odds of stormy weather will be where we are going hiking. Even if we just get an hour or two for hiking, it'll be enough to make the trip worthwhile.

Some of our most treasured memories are being outdoors in extreme weather; as long as there aren't dangerous thunderstorms, it's great fun to be outside in heavy rains. We've been camping outdoors in blinding rain and serious thunderstorms, even a tornado once on an overnight canoe trip, and we've learned that rain is OK to hike in, but serious thunderstorms are best enjoyed at home instead of camping outdoors. We turn off all the lights, get out the digital cameras and get great pictures of these awesome events.
