hiking gear, camping hiking gearLiving in the Los Angeles area it was hard for me to believe my friend had gone on a hike no more than an hour away from where we live, last week, and trekked through snow at the higher elevations. This is easy to believe if there were tall mountains around us but there aren’t, at least not in eye shot. He had the pictures to prove it though. Right after seeing the pictures of a vast expanse of trees, a waterfall, river and then later near the top, snow on his phone I wanted to pack up the hiking gear and experience it for myself. This is the perfect month for camping hiking gear because it is warming up but not nearly as hot as it will be in the end of July and August.

The thing about hiking locally here is that there isn’t much in terms of tree cover unless you drive out towards Big Bear mountain. The sun beats down and makes it tougher to make it to a vantage point. At least at the moment, average temperatures are staying in the 80s instead of the 90s. At that temperature, a lot of water comes with traditional hiking gear.
